Police safety. An interview of detective Pelekasis Nikos in the newspaper “Democracy”.
ONE MONTH was completed without Yannis and George, two young men who fought for law and order and were killed by bullets of thugs. An inevitable event, despite the excellent handling of the operation from start to finish.
OUTCOME. Two dead and two injured. All Greeks watched the event with regret. The initiator and organizer of the DIA team came out manfully and submitted his resignation, but it was not accepted because it was not considered a mistake or an oversight on his part.
I THINK we live in a coordinated state, with laws for both cops and criminals. But it has been realized that the law is deficient in terms of officer safety and that it is now time to change the legal framework regarding the immobilization of criminals, as has been done in other states,so that it is not the permanent weakness of the police force. After all, no law-abiding citizen would refuse to stop at a police signal.
ALL THESE years I have seen and heard of too many police officers who have fallen in the line of duty and because of it. Creepy.
OUTCOME. Parents burying their children and cursing the time and moment they urged them to enlist. Widows and orphans. And when the lights go out, all they are left with is a Greek flag that folded their man. Nothing else.
